8 Plants that Belong in your Skin Care Routine

For centuries, plants have become tried-and-tested tools to beautify skin and remove imperfections. Because these are grown naturally, their rejuvenating properties have found their way in many, if not all skincare products.

When it comes to maintaining a fresh and youthful-looking appearance, there’s just something special and calming about incorporating herbs and flowers instead of harsh chemicals into your daily skincare routine. We’ve done the work for you so you can experience the wonders of plant-based products. Here are some greens that deserve a spot on your vanity table (and maybe a photo or two on your Instagram grid).

1 & 2: CHAMOMILE AND AVOCADO

Chamomile

These daisy-like flowers are not only a good alternative for making non-caffeinated tea and lowering your risk for certain diseases, but also in helping reduce redness on our faces. It’s so powerful in soothing skin from eczema, and in fighting pimples too. We’ll bid goodbye to zits, finally!

Avocado

Not only does this fleshy fruit make for great toast IG pics, but also our dermis. It’s got natural oils, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C that are effective for deeply nourishing, hydrating, and softening the skin and zapping signs of skin aging, as well as fighting environmental toxins.

Try: Evio Skin Refreshing Cleansing Hemp Wipes

wipes

What it does: Apart from helping rid your face of makeup and even waterproof mascara, these multi-functional wipes made with hemp fibres also leaves the skin super smooth and moisturized. No need to worry about stripping our faces of their natural oils. These good ol’ wipes won’t hurt our skin.

Best for: Dry skin

How to use: Gently wipe face to remove deep-seated dirt and makeup products. A tip I got from watching Evio’s CEO, Brandi, on Insta is to take the wipes with you to your shower and put a bit of water in it. It’ll foam up, which is perfect for lathering up your face.

3 & 4: ROSEMARY AND SOY

Rosemary

Not only does this herb do wonders in the kitchen, but also the skincare department. It helps keep swelling and puffiness at bay, as well as soothe the skin.

Soy

If you love keeping your skin looking nice and taught, you’re going to love soy even more. Not only is it a protein-packed meat alternative, but it also has collagen to help repair the skin, smoothen out signs of wrinkles, reduce puffiness, all while boosting the skin’s moisture level and firming it up for a more youthful appearance. It also helps deal with hyperpigmentation (a.k.a. dark spots)! What a nice thing to have in our skincare product!

5 & 6: CANNABIS AND JOJOBA

Cannabis

Marijuana sure is becoming even more popular due to its many medicinal properties, especially for the skin. Not only do cannabinoids help reduce inflammation and provide pain relief, but it can also treat nasty bouts of eczema and dry skin. It has even been found to slow down the signs of skin aging.

Jojoba

You’ll often see this ingredient in a lot of skin lotion and body butter, but what is it exactly? Jojoba is actually a shrub that’s native to parts of Arizona, California, and Mexico. The secret is in its seed’s oil, which deals with redness, drying, and chaffing. That’s because it’s loaded with Vitamins E and B-complex, which battles skin damage. Jojoba oil is not only fantastic to use on the skin but on the hair, too.

Chinaberry (Melia Azadirachta)

The flower of this fruit-bearing tree from the mahogany family has antioxidant and potent anti-skin aging properties. It’s also known to help heal burns and treat other skin conditions such as prickly heat, measles, as well as acne.
