We all want to achieve the perfect glow. And if you are reading this, we bet you most likely have an assortment of skincare products littered in your room.
Cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers… There are so many facial products in the market now, and we know all too well how confusing it can be. Each product has a specific purpose. And no, you do not need to purchase all of them. The question of whether you need a certain product or not would depend on your skin type and concern.
The Layering Sequence
Yes, knowing exactly when to use skincare products matters. Things like texture, water or oil-based, and active ingredients and your skin’s condition need to be considered. This is to ensure that the products do their job well, and you can reap their full benefits.
Our skin works as a protective layer that keeps most things like dirt, dust, and germs at bay. Your skincare routine is rendered useless if the products are unable to penetrate your skin properly. And applying these at random could do more harm than good as mixing certain products can cancel out each other, or worse, make your skin more vulnerable to irritation and damage.
Order of Skincare
But you need not let this intimidate you. We have come up with a simplified yet comprehensive routine you can follow. This includes optional products, and ones that are only to be used in the morning or at night.
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansers turn your face into fresh slate, removing gunk and residue. There are two types of cleansers: water-based and oil-based. The latter is used to get rid of makeup and sunscreen.
In the morning, use a water-based cleanser to remove the oils and bacteria that have gathered in your sleep. To do this, wash your hands and gently massage the cleanser into your skin for about a minute. Then wash off with water and pat dry with a towel.
At night, we recommend double cleansing to remove makeup, dirt, and grime that you’ve accumulated through the day. First, take off all the stubborn makeup (goodbye, waterproof mascara!) with some refreshing wipes. Follow it with your favourite oil- or water-based cleanser.
Step 2: Tone
These are the equivalent of makeup primers, which prep your skin to absorb ingredients better. They also hydrate the skin and remove any dirt or oil left behind after cleansing.
Use a toner that is appropriate for your skin type or concern. This works incredibly well if you are prone to acne as specific toners help unclog pores, prevent breakouts, and dissolve blackheads.
After cleansing, apply it on a cotton pad and swipe over the face in an outward motion. You can skip this if you feel your skin is healthy enough.
Step 3: Serums
As the heavy-lifters of your skin regime, these are concentrated, nutrient-dense elixirs designed to treat individual skin concerns and protect the skin from free radicals. Like Evio Skin Oil Serum, they are essential for hydration and reduce signs of aging, leaving your skin with a healthy, radiant glow.
Wait a few minutes before applying if you have used a toner, then just pat a few drops onto your face and neck.
Pro Tip 1: If you want to pay particular attention to your peepers, use an eye cream to brighten, smooth, and firm up the skin around them. Use your ring finger to dab a tiny amount onto the eye area.
Pro Tip 2: If you suffer from skin blemishes (like zits, scars, or dark spots), use a spot treatment (either morning or night). Before moisturizing, remove any skincare products from the spot, then apply a small amount of the treatment and leave to dry.
Step 4: Moisturize
No matter the condition your skin is in, using moisturizers is absolutely necessary. They work to protect the skin’s natural barrier and lock in moisture and all other products you have used (which make the ingredients more effective).
It is best to go for one that can deeply hydrate your skin, so it is left with a fresh and healthy glow. We’re partial to Evio Skin Rejuvenating Mask as it functions as both a daily moisturizer and face mask that you can apply twice a week.
To use as a moisturizer, squeeze out a small amount (slightly larger than pea-size) and warm it up on your hands. Apply it onto your cheeks first, then to the rest of the face using an upward motion. When used as a mask, apply a thick layer on the face and leave it on for about 15 minutes.
Step 5: AM Only: Sunscreen
Sun-induced skin damage is real. And nobody wants premature aging, worsened acne scars, and increased cancer risk. Sunscreens function as your skin’s armor from the outside world. Choose one that has SPF 30 or higher.
Make sure to spread it liberally and evenly on your face and massage in. This is the last step in your morning skincare. You can put on makeup after letting the sunscreen sit for a while. But if you decide to go au naturel, wait for at least 15 to 30 minutes before heading out. Wear it every day, all-year-round.
If all else fails
...and then there’s Evio 3-Step Skincare Set that’s conveniently packed for your daily skincare regimen. It comes with a cleanser (Refreshing Cleansing Wipes), serum (Revitalizing Serum), and moisturizer/mask (Rejuvenating Mask). Skincare can’t get any simpler, effective, and convenient than this.
You don’t need a 10-step skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Using the right products for your skin type and concerns will help you achieve an all-year glow. And, don’t forget to drink enough water, get enough rest, and stay away from stress.
