While summer can be a great time to take a road trip or head for the beach, it can also be a bummer when you have vacation days to use but lack the resources to actually go anywhere. (Trust me I know the feeling)
So even though a staycation may not be your first choice, there are still plenty of ways that you can turn your time at home into a blissful summer retreat!
1. STOP WORKING ASAP.
It can be easy to slip back into old routines and even “just checking” your work email can lead down a rabbit hole where you find yourself buried in work on your day off! So I recommend setting an out of office auto reply on your email and even temporarily deleting the account from your phone so you won’t be tempted every time an email comes in.
2. HAVE A PLAN.
If you spend hours planning for a vacation then why not do the same for your staycation? Make the most out of your days off by being picky about what you really want to do. Always wanted to check out the museum downtown? Go for it! Or spend a lazy afternoon at the cafe reading and sipping coffee? Why not? Planning out what you want to do makes it feel more like a real vacation and you’re way less likely to let the days slip by too quick.
3. EAT WELL.
For most of us, eating is already the best part of any vacation (at least mine anyways) so indulge yourself and eat better than you normally would. Whether that be going to restaurants, getting meals delivered, or cooking yourself an extravagant dinner! Just make sure to eat guilt-free and enjoy every meal.
4. GET YOUR HOUSE CLEANED BY SOMEONE ELSE: YES REALLY.
Chances are you saved money by not going out of town so why not put a little bit of it aside for a small luxury like this? You could get your place cleaned by a professional or even have a high schooler come over for a quick spruce up. Either way, you’ll feel so much better spending your staycation in a freshly cleaned home.
5. LEARN A NEW COCKTAIL.
Half the fun of going on vacation is getting to try something new and not being in your usual routine. So why not bring that feeling home by learning how to make a new cocktail or even trying a new wine!
6. BRING THE SPA TO YOU.
While it might not beat a 90-minute professional massage at a 4-star resort, there are still plenty of ways to relax and escape to your own version of paradise at home. Set the mood with some spa-like music, light LOTS of candles, grab some essential oils from the health food store and draw yourself the most luxurious bath you can imagine!
7. BUY YOURSELF A LITTLE “SOUVENIR”.
We love to buy stuff when we go away on vacation because it’s a good way to remember the trip once you’re back home. So why not do the same for your staycation? I’m not saying go on a shopping spree, but buy yourself a little trinket like a cute coffee mug to commemorate your blissful time at home.
Hopefully, these tips help you get more excited for your days off. The most important thing to remember is not to pressure yourself too much and just do whatever YOU feel like doing because you earned it!
