Alternatives for Women


Alternatives for Women provides Second Stage Housing and non-judgmental, supportive counselling from a feminist perspective. They advocate on behalf of women and children and provide public education about the issues that concern women who have experienced domestic violence. All of their counselling services are free and confidential

Women come to Armagh through referrals from an emergency shelter or from the Peel Children’s Aid Society Domestic Violence Team.

Armagh provides transitional housing as an intermediate step between emergency crisis shelter and permanent housing. It is a more long-term, service-intensive and private than emergency shelters. It is meant to provide a safe, supportive environment where residents can overcome trauma, begin to address the their trauma, and begin to rebuild their support network (+ additional programs offered)

Barrie Shelter


The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie has been providing shelter and support services to abused women and children since 1981. The agency consists of a 27 bed crisis shelter along with Outreach services onsite. Approximately 1,000 women and children are assisted by the agency annually. In addition to shelter, staff provide individual and group counselling, legal information and support, court support, information about violence against women, referrals to other community and social services, and public education in the community.

Beauty Night Society


Beauty Night builds self-esteem and changes the lives of women and youth living in poverty through three streams of programming: wellness, life skills development and makeovers.

Green Haven Shelter for Women is a community-based, non-profit, charitable organization which provides services including 24-hour safe emergency shelter; a crisis line; crisis counselling; information about community resources; emergency transportation; transitional housing support; and outreach and follow-up for women and their dependent children who are experiencing abuse.
